The first release of Tetris on a gaming console was Bullet-Proof Software's version for the Famicom (known elsewhere as the NES). This version of the game was only released in Japan.
Tetris for the Famicom lets players score more points based on how many lines they clear and is broken up into "stages" of 25 lines each.
This version of the game used an early control scheme in which you rotate Tetrimino pieces with the directional buttons and Hard Drop by pressing a button. Use the Controls menu to configure your controls however you like.
